Advanced World Music Performance Organizations: African American Music Ensemble

Activity, three hours; outside practice, three hours. Performance of diverse range of vocal repertoire including spirituals, gospel, freedom/Civil Rights songs, and other works by African-diasporic composers, including anthems, hymn arrangements, and various forms of contemporary choral music. Tracing development of this music from 1600s to present, African American choral music is medium performed a cappella or with instrumental accompaniment. May be repeated for credit without limitation. Letter grading.
