The lectures were very good and engaging for someone not even in stem. Rensel is pretty reasonable and the midterms and final were not bad at all. The biggest time commitment in this class comes from the GMO game, which is still entirely manageable.
I loved this class so much! The professors were amazing, and were very clear on what they were teaching to the students, and how its impact in the world around us was relevant to our time/lessons today. Going to lectures are definitely beneficial because you learn most of the content there, and you are able to expand upon the content as you discuss with your peers and go deeper into the lesson. Overall, this is a great class and I highly recommend it.
Homework is annotations on different readings
Midterms and finals rely on readings for the class - there is a free response portion
Discussions were interesting - TAs are helpful
Rensel was an excellent professor. The biggest problem was that some of the other professors were a little more lackluster while teaching and they didn't write very good slides either. Fall had a focus on more of a make believe situation where we were given a side we had to argue for, and we had a group project where we work with people that were given the same side as us. Winter had more of a focus on a book we had to read. Spring there was multiple classes taught by the TAs and they all had different topics and requirements.
I didn't know what to expect coming into this class, but I actually really enjoyed it. Although there are weekly readings and annotations you have to do, the class is still very manageable. The exams are fair and as long as you understand the material presented in the lecture slides, you will do well.
