    Quarter Taken: Winter 2023 In-Person

The class was doable, however, when it comes times to exams Lannan is very peculiar about using his choice of words to answer questions. Do not write long responses, write short and to the point ones that draw directly from the slides.

Lannan is a great lecturer. He got a lot of bad reviews from previous sections, but he has definitely learned from them and applied them to this class. He is very fair. The only thing that is difficult about this class is the material itself. Lannan is a great guy.

    Quarter Taken: Fall 2022 In-Person
    Grade: P

Lectures were a bit unclear in the beginning of the quarter, but got more engaging and clear throughout the quarter. There is a some memorization required for the class, which Lannan tests on through quizzes. However, the amount you need to memorize is well-defined and the quizzes are easy. Homework tended to be long and tedious, but they were good preparation for the exams. Office hours are helpful.

    Grade: A+

the lectures were fast paced and averagely organized. the professor is very smart and moves fast so sometimes if you dont follow his logic or thought process you can easily get lost. however practice exams were extremely helpful and go to office hours and ask questions. find study groups to study together and do the learning objectives. i didn't find attending lecture as helpful because i easily get distracted and the 50mins become useless to me. what i do is go back and rewatch the lectures and take down notes for every single thing he talks about. his tests are based off of things the tells us which often times arent listed on the powerpoint slides.
we were lucky in terms of our final since an incident occurred but it will likely never happen again so study hard for it. i found joy in learning the material and felt a sense of accomplishment from finally understanding the concepts which helped me immensely in getting through and doing well in this class.

Lannon was simply the funniest, smartest, and most wholesome professor for 153a. I actually got an A+ because of his extremely accommodating policy during the TA strikes in fall 2022. In other words, his policy which gave me a score boost got me an A+, but of course you have to be good enough already to get that boost.

    Quarter Taken: Winter 2024 In-Person
    Grade: A

This class requires a lot of work. There are four lectures per week in addition to one discussion, so it is quite time consuming keeping up with the lecture materials. The midterms are administered in week 4 and week 8, so there is a lot of material on both, as well as additional things that will be assessed with the final. Overall, Lannan is a good professor and he wants his students to do well, it is just imperative that you keep up with the work. There are homework problem sets due every monday.

    Grade: A-

All of the exams are fair game because he definitely teaches you everything you need to know during class. However, be sure to be very specific during your exams because you essentially get one point per fact. It's better to write too much than too little on this exam, but beware of your time spacing because the second miterm was not forgiving to those who spent too much time writing essays on the first pages.

Lannan definitely cares about your learning and his lectures are recorded and super helpful

    Quarter Taken: Fall 2023 In-Person
    Grade: A+

Dr. Lannan is one of the best professors I took for CHEM courses. His lectures are very clear, although a little rushed sometimes. There is not too much homework and understanding homework is enough for the exams. There are a lot of extra credit, too.

    Quarter Taken: Fall 2023 In-Person
    Grade: N/A

Lannan is a great lecturer and very enthusiastic about the class content. He makes the concepts easy to understand. I have no complaints about his teaching style, but just be aware that this course is not easy. The homework helps drive home the concepts and helps prepare you for the exam. He also provides the past quarter's midterms to study with and holds review sessions before the tests. Overall, would take Lannan again!
