Principles and Practices in Medical Genetics 1

Lecture, three hours. First course in three-course series. Focus on medical approaches to clinical genetics. Topics include molecular basis of genetic disease, modes of inheritance, principles of cytogenetics and molecular technologies, and disorders of chromosomes. The application of medical and genetic information to genetic counseling is addressed. Use of lectures, problem-based learning scenarios, and examinations. Attendance at grand rounds/seminar series is required. Letter grading.
