Politics of Reproduction and Everyday Life

(Same as Sociology M164.) Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Limited to juniors/seniors. Social and human reproduction is global policy issue. Government efforts to influence reproduction are important feature of modern state: political intervention into private life, intimacy, and sexuality. Exploration of politics of reproduction--intersection between politics and life cycle or between public sphere and private lives--and coverage of broad range of issues addressing prevention and promotion of reproduction from historical-comparative approach. Reading, discussion, and development of culminating project. P/NP or letter grading.
