(Formerly numbered 164.) Lecture, four hours; discussion, two hours; outside study, six hours. Requisite: course 153. Introduction to environmental engineering. Management of solid wastes, some of which are hazardous, is integral part of infrastructure development, and it is required to achieve environmental sustainability. Study of all aspects of hazardous and municipal solid waste management technologies with particular emphasis on reuse of some wastes for alternative applications or energy production. Students are expected to integrate economic, environmental, regulatory, policy, and technical considerations into development of engineering designs of sustainable waste management. Student teams design sustainable remediation or waste management plans. Concurrently scheduled with course C264. Letter grading.
