Preparation for College-Level Teaching in Life Sciences

Seminar, two hours. Designed for graduate students who are teaching assistants in the Life Sciences Core Curriculum for the first time. To be taken concurrently in the term in which students teach or at most one quarter before they teach. Prepares students for college-level teaching in large enrollment undergraduate courses, and provides professional development to support students pursuing diverse careers in life sciences. Focus on inclusive, student-centered, and evidence-based teaching methodologies that include active learning, group work, formative assessment, backward course design, and reflective teaching practices that incorporate peer observations and constructive feedback. Students must repeat the course for credit if they do not teach within three quarters after first completion. S/U grading.
