Pilgrimage: Ancient Paths and Modern Practice

Seminar, one hour. Study aims to illuminate varied motives and meanings of pilgrimage in both ancient and modern world. Through experiential learning, historical case studies, and group discussions, exploration of pilgrimage as ritual devotion and transformation--in both religious and secular contexts. Exploration also of ways that pilgrimage can inform students' own lives by reflecting on personal journeys and making their own pilgrimage routes. By integrating lessons of pilgrimage practice, students move forward with vision, purpose, and willingness to tread new paths for generations to come. P/NP grading.
