Sex, Race, and Difference in Transnational Film
Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). How are sex, race, and cultural difference represented and constructed in transnational film? Use of lens of transnational film to better understand how discourses of race, gender, sex, and sexuality intersect in formation of identities, structures of inequality, and notions of cultural difference. Draws upon scholarship in feminist anthropology, ethnic studies, and film studies to develop analytical tools for examining selection of films that address dynamism of race, gender, sexuality and cultural difference across time (historically) and across space (in different geographical locations) in transnational contexts. P/NP or letter grading.

4 opportunities to do essays, you only need to do 3 of them (you can choose).
Essays are 4-5 pages (2-2.5K words) on films watched during class (Eat Pray Love, Black Panther, Ilo Ilo, etc.) and there's multiple prompts per essay so you can really pick and choose which ones you want to watch.
The material is SUPER interesting and although the class is definitely quite dense and alot of material, the professor and TA are SUPER accommodating.
If you have the opportunity to take this class and are interested in film, transnationalism, gender, race, etc. defo take this class with this professor
Fairly easy only assignments were essays and the final was a group project
