This class was overall pretty interesting! Prof Vazquez is a great lecturer and I did not touch the textbook at all. The assigments were a little bit heavy for a GE as there were 3 essays, a midterm, and a final. Despite this, all assignmnets were graded pretty leniently.
Loved this class. Lectures were never boring, really enjoyed them. I also found her voice very soothing. I never read any of the textbooks so I regret not opting out of the Achieve thing. The midterms and finals are exactly the same as the study guide and were very easy, got an A on both. Didn't go to discussions that much, they weren't really helpful tbh. There were 3 essays, all pretty easy. The grading for essays seems chill and TAs were nice. Weekly quizzes that had unlimited tries so you can get 100% on those. Midterm and Final were set up in three parts: part 1 you had to define 3/4 vocabulary works, part 2 you had to write short 2/3 paragraphs responding to a passage describing a certain event, part 3 was a 2/3 page essays responding to a prompt. Any possible passage topic and prompts are given in the study guide which is super helpful because I knew EXACTLY what to study. 10/10 love Professor Vasquez highly recommend!
Professor Vazquez's class was incredibly informational and well-organized with the material being quite interesting. She seems so eager to share what she knows that if we had the time she seemed ready to veer off onto fascinating tangents. Overall, the material and the professor together makes Classics 20 a very fulfilling class. There are 2 midterms, 1 final and 2 papers. Most people do well on these assignments.
She is a very good lecturer, loves to tell a story. Discussion sections were also pretty good for a GE. I find that discussions for these types of classes are just a time to sit and talk but this class we actually reviewed important information that prepared us for what was to come later on in the class.
