Focus on Afro-Latina/o experience in U.S. through exploration of its historical roots and contemporary forms. How colorism in Latin America and U.S. influence Afro-Latina/o identity. Regional differences and different types of Afro-Latina/os that include Blaxicans, Nuyoricans, Afro-Cubans, and others are taken into account. Discussion of themes that include feminism, politics, culture, music, and identities in order to obtain comprehensive picture of Afro-Latina/os in U.S. yesterday and today. P/NP or letter grading.
