Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Senior undergraduate students considered on case by case basis. In-depth study of concepts and paradigms in hematopoietic development. Mammalian hematopoiesis and normal development, with focus on molecular regulation of cellular development and equal emphasis on conceptual and experimental aspects of knowledge in field. Discussion of important pathological states within hematopoietic system, as well as established and novel avenues for therapy. Topics include hematopoietic stem cells and niche, transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of hematopoiesis, B- and T-lymphocyte development, myeloid, erythroid, and platelet development, immune responses, myeloid and lymphoid neoplasia, and bone marrow transplantation/gene therapy. S/U or letter grading.
