Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Enforced requisite: satisfaction of Entry-Level Writing requirement. Examination of representative plays; readings may range from Greek to modern drama. Emphasis on critical approaches to dramatic text; study of issues such as plot construction, characterization, special uses of language in drama, methods of evaluation. P/NP or letter grading.

    prof & TAs are all pretty chill. prof dickey makes readings more interesting but lectures aren't recorded. if you read the plays, midterm, paper, and final should all be light work

    I really enjoyed this class. Definitely a lot of work, but I found Dickey's lectures and play choices very interesting. You definitely do need to read at least most of the plays, especially for the midterm and final which were timed essays in person and closed book.
