(Same as Neuroscience M187 and Psychology M166.) Lecture, four hours. Limited to junior/senior neuroscience, physiological science, and psychology students. Exploration of aspects of mammalian brain function that generate preference, bias, and discrimination. Consideration of research at multiple levels of analysis from genetics to neural circuits to behavior. Discussion of societal implications of these research findings, including their relevance to public policies and criminal justice system. Letter grading.
