Prior to first meeting, students must complete Bloodborne Pathogens training course through UCLA Environment, Health and Safety. Introduction to head and neck anatomy. Dissection of head and neck, with focus on vasculature, innervation, and musculature to put them in three-dimensional context. Coverage of evolutionary, developmental, physiological, and biomechanical aspects of skull, including comparative anatomy of other vertebrate skulls, dental evolution and mechanics, respiratory anatomy, and developmental origins of head structures. Letter grading.
