Overview of engineering seismology, including plate tectonics, faults, wave propagation, and earthquake strong ground motion. Development and selection of design ground motions using both probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and code-based methods. Overview of seismic design regulation and California PE examination's seismic component. Code-based seismic design for new buildings using current International Building Code seismic code provisions. Overview of seismic design of bridges, dams, and other non-building structures. Letter grading.
