Seminar, four hours; discussion, one hour; outside study, seven hours. Introduction to simulation methodologies and model development approaches that provide insight into systemic risks or performance characteristics involved in random processes and/or complex systems. These simulation methodologies are designed to inform decision-making at all stages of the system's lifecycle. Key elements include underlying mathematic principles, numerical analysis techniques, and application of results to solve problems in range of science and engineering fields. Students gain experience in creating properly scoped simulation models, verifying models, and presenting results to communicate information. Students are equipped with working knowledge of fundamental simulation techniques and ability to create meaningful models of their own. Letter grading.
