Seminar, one hour. Exploration of the auditory path of the sound source (stimuli) to the perceptual processing areas of the brain. Investigation of hearing as a sense, delving into the structures contributing to the sensation and processing of auditory stimuli. Discussions examine how anatomical structure relates to function within the auditory system, and how disruption to structure causes impaired function. Students will hypothesize how damage to each portion of the system may impact one's experience of auditory stimuli, and how technology has the potential to potentially damage hearing or improve sound perception. Students demystify common medical tests and delve into the social implications of living with hearing loss. Designed as entry-level course on the human auditory system.
