Interracial Dynamics in American Culture and Society
Lecture, three hours; discussion, two hours. Enforced requisite: course 20A. Limited to first-year freshmen. Examination of nature and meaning of race in American society through study of history, literature, and law. Consideration, among other topics, of construction of race as social and cultural category among two or more groups and exploration of ways in which race has shaped understanding of American citizenship. Letter grading.

honestly... the perusall readings did not need to be completed to make your weekly comments. the lectures were super engaging, I really enjoyed Fong and Brown's lectures specifically. depending on your TA, you'll get a little more/less out of the course. there's not a midterm exactly, but there is a paper due week 7 that you work on throughout the quarter up to that point. final is posted monday of finals week and you are given until wednesday to answer the prompts.
Easy but lots of readings. Discussion sucks
Pretty much the same class as 20A. The final is also pretty much the same so expect that. The only thing different is that instead of the literary analysis you do an oral history report which has you interviewing someone and writing an essay on it.
