Basic concepts of stability of earth slopes, including shear strength, design charts, limit equilibrium analysis, seepage analysis, staged construction, and rapid drawdown. Theory of earth pressures behind retaining structures, with special application to design of retaining walls, sheet piles, mechanically stabilized earth, soil nails, and anchored and braced excavation. Letter grading.
