Generative Art
Studio, six hours. Requisites: courses 21, 22, 24, 25, 28, and 101 or 104. Generative art is a form where the artist creates a system and the system creates the work. While not limited to artists working with code and software, it is the most prominent method of exploration. Examination of history of artists working with code from 1960s to present. Exploration of artists who have written their own code to explore media including plotter drawings, film, CD-ROMs, websites, and contemporary generative art. Reading of historical and contemporary writing while creating new and original work within this arts practice field. Students write their own code to create their own generative art systems. Letter grading.
