Lecture, two hours; discussion, two hours. Basic foundation in physical mechanisms of, responses to, and health implications of human-induced climate change. Exploration of variety of epidemiologic, risk assessment, and statistical methods used to understand impacts of climate change on health across diverse demographic groups; including efforts to estimate current and future global burden of disease due to climate change, as well as avoidable and attributable risk. Elaboration of public health implications, positive and negative, of efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change, including discussions of ethical, political, and economic aspects of these efforts. Emphasis on how adverse effects of climate change are borne disproportionately by vulnerable people and groups. Students are responsible for leading class discussions and presenting poster on their choice of topic related to climate change and health. S/U or letter grading.
