(Formerly numbered Chicana and Chicano Studies 238.) Seminar, three hours. Focus on current state and future of research, teaching, and museum practice in Chicanx and Latinx art history. Examination of various topics, including decolonial methodologies; national versus global perspectives on Latinx art; indigenity and Chicanx art; politics and publics of prints and graphics; public murals and monuments; race and place in Los Angeles; queer and feminist approaches to Chicanx and Latinx art; and collecting and display of Chicanx art by museums, galleries, and private collectors. Particular emphasis on decolonial, feminist, critical race, and poststructuralist approaches. Students prepare weekly readings for discussion, and complete final presentation and research project. Parameters of project to be determined in consultation with professor. Examples include original research paper, teaching portfolio, comprehensive historiographic review, or creative project. S/U or letter grading.
