Took this class for a GE. The instructor was very passionate about the subject and honestly, she made it interesting. The lectures were long though. She teaches two different concepts in the class, which are tested on (one concept for the midterm, one for the final). One of the concepts, you will struggle more than the other. Attendance is required, so she made us sign a sign-in sheet. And honestly, if you skip class, you will be lost. Just contact her though for a zoom recording, she's really nice. A great professor, but the concepts are a little jammed together, making it kind of difficult to under. I got lost a couple of times but discussion sections help reinforce what she teaches. Homework is kind of lengthy and hard as well but you are given reasonable time to finish it. I suggest making friends. You don't need to know Spanish for the class :D (and you lowkey don't need the textbook either unless she changed it up for future quarters). I did P/NP because I thought my final was going to drop my grade to B+ but I ended up with an A- :c
Exams were online and open notebook, professors and TAs very responsive to emails and understanding, textbook was nice for getting a more in-depth understanding but not necessary. Don't need to know Spanish or Portuguese, anything on the tests in those languages had an English translation. But knowing a little of either one does make it a bit easier for examples in those languages.
Surprisingly difficult. Resources are very accessible but you will not succeed in this course without some studying. Homework assignments are easily completed but harshly graded. Midterms are open-book, online, and significantly easier than HW.
