Lecture, three hours. Survey of theoretical and empirical literature on race, ethnicity, and immigrant groups in U.S. to provide comparative analysis of racial/ethnic groups as well as provide detailed knowledge of particular racial/ethnic groups, to situate contemporary experiences within historical contexts, to understand structural integration into U.S. society (i.e., structural assimilation or socioeconomic mobility), and to examine theoretical approaches to understanding race and ethnicity in contemporary society. Preparation for field examination in race and ethnicity. S/U or letter grading.
