Archaeological Landscapes of China
(Same as Anthropology M116R.) Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Declassified space images from Cold War era and open remote sensing data of 21st century provide new opportunities for studying landscape transformation in historical China. Combining lectures, library research, and hands-on analysis of archaeological sites on satellite images, investigation of changing historical and archaeological landscape in China during last 5,000 years. Social processes at various scales, from emergence of early cities to rise of metropolitan centers and formation of imperial landscapes. P/NP or letter grading.
