Coverage of (1) publishing process--submitting manuscripts to journals, selecting appropriate journals, frequent reasons for journal rejection of manuscripts, and key points in writing articles for publication, (2) overview of National Institutes of Health (NIH), including organization structure and mission, grant application process, funding mechanisms, and review process, (3) preparing/writing grants for submission to NIH, including review of components of successful applications, criteria by which applications are judged, and what to emphasize in each section, (4) grant mechanisms specifically designed for new investigators, (5) human subjects section for grant applications and IRB issues, and (6) preparation of budgets (modular and detailed) and budget justification for NIH submissions.
