Health Reform: Policy, Research, and Implementation Issues

Seminar, three hours. Requisites: courses 200A, 200B. Limited to second-year MPH and doctoral students. Analysis of components of major federal healthcare reform legislative initiative to identify important policy, research, and implementation issues. Application of principles of stakeholder analysis to understand how and why this legislation was constructed and how it passed Congress. Conducting of policy analyses of selected components through completion of written assignments. Examination of respective roles of federal and state government in implementing and administering various components. Identification of significant implementation and administrative challenges at federal and state levels and development of possible strategies for addressing those challenges. Letter grading.
