Why nanoscience is important and interesting and critical role of chemistry in nanoscience. Chemistry and physics of variety of synthetic inorganic nanostructures, including metallic nanostructures (nanocrystals, nanorods, nanowires), semiconductor nanostructures (quantum dots/rods, nanowires, plates), and carbon nanostructures (fullerene, nanotubes, graphene). Discussion of synthetic approaches, structures, and physical properties, as well as potential technological opportunities of each. Letter grading.
