Lecture, three hours; museum field trip. Introduction to arts and archaeology on Korean peninsula from Neolithic beginnings to early 20th century through analysis and discussion of selection of monuments and objects within technological, stylistic, religious, cultural, and sociopolitical contexts. Examination of construction of concepts of history and art under colonial and nationalist perspectives, with regard to historical and contemporary East Asian cultural and political interrelations.
