Lecture, three hours. Requisite: courses 11, 103. Corequisite: course 181L. Application of economic theory and quantitative reasoning to study economic history of Western Europe from 18th to 20th century. Topics include Malthusian theory, Industrial Revolution, demographic transition, formation and persistence of institutions and organizations, World Wars, and development of Europe during 1950s and 1960s.
