Surrealism, 1924 to 1939
Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Study of art, literature, and film associated with surrealist movement in France, with special attention to dissident surrealism of writer and philosopher Georges Bataille, as well as to challenge to art history posed by surrealism's engagement with lessons of psychoanalysis. Concurrently scheduled with course C229C. P/NP or letter grading.
