Music on China's Periphery
Lecture, four hours; outside study, eight hours. Designed for undergraduate ethnomusicology, music, music history, and world arts and cultures majors. Survey of musics from China's border regions and neighboring countries: technical musical characteristics and important contextual issues related to traditional and modern styles from Mongolia, Uighurs of Xinjiang, Tibet, Tibeto-Burman peoples, Hmong, and indigenous peoples of Taiwan. Concurrently scheduled with course C259. P/NP or letter grading.
