Seminar, three hours. Advanced course that explores topics in East Asian linguistics through critical reading of current research on Asian languages and in-depth analysis of linguistic data. Topics include linguistic structure, communicative function, pragmatics, language, society, and culture, and language change. May be repeated for credit. S/U or letter grading.
