Seminar, two hours. Effective educational leaders require ability to accurately diagnose educational problems before jumping to proposed solutions. Study designs must include systematic ways to collect and analyze data, as well as minimize potential threats to validity of data and analysis. Designed to equip students with tools needed to design research studies that address specific real-world educational problems. Basic understanding of research designs as strategies for investigating educational problems, such as types of questions that can be answered appropriately with qualitative and mixed methods studies, design components, planning for fieldwork and data collection, sampling, ethics, and credibility.
