I found that his explanations for lectures weren't the best, in the sense that I felt it was disconnected from the way a student would be learning the concepts for the first time. I personally found it very helpful not to show up to the lectures, but instead to read the textbook, and then watch that section of the lecture for the example problem walkthroughs, and then continue with the textbook, etc etc.
The midterms and finals were good in the sense that the content was basically exactly the same as all of the homework and practice problems, so it's easy to know if you have a strong grasp of the content or not.
Suzuki is a great prof for 32A. His lectures are clear and his tests are very fair. The alternate grading scheme is a great opportunity for those two can't attend or do poorly on one of the midterms to still succeed in the class. If you procrastinate on the homework and do it all in one sitting it can be lengthy, but if u spread it over 2 or 3 days it's not bad at all. I spent an average of maybe 3-4 hours on each assignment. Overall, I enjoyed this class and I'd recommend Suzuki!
Suzuki was great! He went fast but explained concepts well, and was always willing to help during office hours.
Professor Suzuki, in my opinion, is a fantastic instructor. I would say he should be considered as one of the best math instructor within the department. First of all, the structure of his lectures are well planned in a way that makes the lesson easily digestible. He starts with some definitions and gives context on the lesson then moves on to examples. These examples would do a good job of representing the type of problems we would encounter on exams and homework. I especially appreciated this since I've unfortunately had professors (Ocal for 31B) who would do super easy examples in lecture but assign problems that would be much more difficult. Furthermore, Suzuki is very fair in terms of workload. He assigns 20 problems each week. I find this to be a good number where it's enough to be good practice and it's not too much that it's just busy work. There is also a quiz every week which are also very fair. Suzuki writes his exams so that it's very representative of what we've learned in class. He never throws any curveball questions or tries to trick us with a confusing question. His exams are fair in the sense that if you paid attention in class and did the homework, you should do well on the exams too. Not only is Suzuki a great lecturer, he is also very helpful outside the classroom. The week prior to an exam, Suzuki would graciously host a review session for the benefit of his students. I'm especially grateful for this since I believe these review sessions helped me greatly. There's a lot of content to cover in order to review for a test but Suzuki does it in a good way. I also really appreciate how accommodating Suzuki is towards exam scores. When he decided that he was not going to curve the midterms, he compensated by laying out the specifics of the final and dropping an additional quiz score while also assigning another one to boost quiz grades. All in all, I really don't have any complaints about Professor Suzuki. I think he is a terrific instructor and hope he continues to do what he does. I definitely recommend taking this guy.
The class is okay. I'm a stem person and found the material a little hard to grasp, but Suzuki is a great teacher and was very clear. His midterms were somewhat difficult (I recieved a B and C on them), but the final is very similar to questions on the midterms so it was "easy" (I got an A on the final)
Suzuki was very clear about what would be on the midterm and finals, which made the class easy. He never gave any questions to trick you.
The lectures were fast paced. The instructor covered the content with a lot of example problems. The instructor could slow down the lecture and allow more time for question. I was prepared for tests with help from the lectures, homework, and practice midterms and finals. I received the grade I expected.
Suzuki is an amazing lecturer. He makes the material easy to understand and use. He goes over problems and explains in further detail than the textbook would go into. I would walk out of class understanding the material and had no problem solving problems for homework. The midterm and finals were easy as long as you did the practice midterms/finals.
