Amazing class, didn't expect to like it but ended up being really interested in the subject. Dr. Gallagher is very thorough and clear and her slides are great. I didn't actually do most of the readings because she explains them very well. I also had a really great TA. The midterms and final were tough but very doable and IMO rewarding.

The lectures could get boring so I would often have trouble paying attention despite rewatching them at home. Despite what people in the past may have said, this class is not an easy and straightforward GE. They grade each midterm as a bell curve with B in the middle, so a majority of people will get a B with very few being able to get an A, so I felt like no matter how much I understood the lectures, readings, and homeworks, I still wasn't getting the grade I wanted. I honestly still do not know how I ended up with an A because I had not been doing so well up until the final, but I ended up pulling a really good grade on the final essay which brought my grade up. I was hoping the class would be more interesting than it actually ended up being, but at least I fulfilled a major requirement.

really interesting concepts and Gallagher's lectures are super detailed with everything you need to know but grade is entirely based on 3 papers that are kinda up to TA's grading

Lectures can be pretty boring simply because they are too long in my opinion. This is an ethics class, but I noticed sometimes the professor would spend way too long talking about details or other things before getting to the ethics and philosophers of the topic, which was the actual important part of the lectures/class. TAs determine most of your grade based on your essays and they are pretty harsh. The grading system is ridiculous because they basically go based on vibes. They select the letter grade they want to give you (i.e. "i think this is a B level essay") and then give you a set percentage ( I think a B was like 85%). This means you cant get anything in between the set %'s for B, B+, A-, A, etc. So you either get an A- or a B+ and no in between (theres like a 4-5% difference between those two so that makes a big difference!!!!). They also say they do not give out lots of A's on assignments and participation. Most people get an A- or B+. They gave me an A for participation though and and for my third essay I got an A (which I wasnt expecting since they gave me a B and B+ on the previous two). The final exam is extremely easy but only worth 10% of your grade. I got an A in the class in the end.
