The textbook was super helpful! Especially the quiz questions. Parkinson is a passionate lecturer, she covers a lot and speaks quickly. Midterms were group midterms, each exam was a great opportunity to improve your grade.
The textbook for this class was a surprisingly good read, unfortunately the live lectures were in large part taken straight from it, which made attending them feel like a waste of time. Thankfully Dr. Parkinson also has prerecorded lectures segmented by topic available on the course website. I would recommend reading the textbook and course slides, watching the videos associated with said slides if they are confusing, and skipping live lectures. The material is interesting but pretty easy, you can do great on the exams if you study vocab with the flashcards provided on bruinlearn.
Professor Parkinson is hands-down the clearest and most organized lecturer I have had at UCLA. She makes it clear what topics we are working on and in what order; the terms are explicitly defined first, then examples are provided. The video content shown in class is highly relevant.
Nothing about this class is superfluous. Everything is necessary and reasonable. While the content is also fascinating and applicable to everyone's lives, she also makes it incredibly easy to digest and understand.
It's a pretty simple class. Just memorize the vocab, and you're good
prof was helpful and very fair in grading
Professor Parkinson was very clear about conveying the material and she provided recordings afterwards to review, the discussion sections were mandatory but interesting to attend!
