Mathematics of Engineering
Lecture, four hours; discussion, two hours; outside study, six hours. Requisite: Mathematics 33A. Recommended requisite: course M20. Methods of solving ordinary differential equations in engineering. Review of matrix algebra, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors. Solution of systems of first-order ordinary differential equations using matrix methods. Introduction to Laplace transforms and their application to ordinary differential equations. Introduction to boundary value problems, partial differential equations, and separation of variables. Letter grading.
