There were a few logistical issues throughout the course, but Professor Shao was very understanding and gave lots of extra credit opportunities. The average was around an A-

Overall, easy enough to get an A, but Shao was sub-par to say the least with her organization and teaching skills. Lots of extra credit make it easy to get an A, but really don't walk away with much knowledge of Ochem.

Dr. Shao is a great lecturer and provides a lot of extra credit. The only main problem was the situation of the first midterm where they didn't print enough copies, but I believe her solution was very fair and helped boost our grades. The second midterm was more difficult in terms of content, but the final was fine in my opinion. The exams are all open note, which definitely makes them a lot less stressful.

Lecture notes were written clearly but was more broad and conceptual. Exams were similar to practice questions but the prof lacked empathy for grading and was very curt when answering questions. We didn't finish ~3 lectures worth of material.

Don't take the class with this professor, she is extremely unorganized. Took a Thursday evening midterm that the prof erred on and the whole class had to retake it that next Monday.

Overall, organic chemistry is hard, so I struggled a lot during the first few weeks. However, once you learn to visualize, it becomes a lot better. I did terribly on the first midterm, but definitely learning to think in the way that the professor wants you to think will let you do well in the class!

Her notes were really organized and solid and the test prep she gave was exactly like the test.

The professor was very knowledgeable and explained concepts really well. Although the first midterm was super disorganized, she corrected her mistakes and ended up dropping the midterm from the grade book. She is very accommodating, and I would recommend taking Chem 14C with her.
