I took this class asynchronously and lectures were all prerecorded by a different professor, so I had little interaction with Prof Silvestri. Overall, it was pretty easy, since you only need to watch the lectures and read the case studies (you don't really need to read the textbook). There was one short multiple choice assignment every week, and both the midterm and final were multiple choice. The two papers were pretty easy and fun. The only annoying part of this class was memorizing IPA symbols, but otherwise it was an easy A.

The exams are very easy, getting an A is straightforward as long as you don't put the 2 essays off for too long. Even then, they only take around a day to complete.
I took this class asynchronous, so we had recorded lectures and a short multiple-choice assignment every week. Overall, the material is pretty straightforward, and getting an A shouldn't be too difficult as long as you watch the lectures and don't procrastinate on the two essays (which were really simple). Reading the textbook is useless, as pretty much everything in the textbook is covered during the lectures. If you're looking for an easy and pretty interesting GE, take this class.
Definitely more work than expected but lectures are enjoyable
Very easy class with recorded video lectures
super easy class, but you do have to keep up with the work or else it will pile up and be a little much to go over during finals week
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Ling 1 despite taking it as a GE. The course is extremely well organized with its pre-recorded video lectures, and the asynchronous aspect of the course is of course nice. The content offered a gentle yet also rigorous introduction to both overarching concepts like the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis and the technical terminology of morphemes and the IPA. Exams were online but were proctored—this was slightly annoying but not a big issue. In addition there were two analysis papers comparing your native language and another language which were fairly straightforward and you can take the opportunity to investigate some things you find interesting.
The class was interesting but grading was a bit tougher than expected!
