Absolutely loved this class! Cannot praise professor Thopmson enough! He does a great job of articulating certain topics and seems like a genuinely passionate professor. 10/10 would take again!
Professor was super nice and accommodating, he curved and gave extra credit.
Class consisted of lectures focused on specific political questions (like what causes low voter turnout or how effective is political advertising). Each lecture was associated with one or two 10-20 page academic articles but you don't need to read them super thoroughly. The midterm was a little difficult but he ended up curving it at the end and changing the final. There are also "paper explainers" every few weeks where you have to choose one academic paper and summarize it in an essay, podcast, or presentation. Only audio is recorded but it was pretty easy to follow along with the provided slides.
The class was enjoyable and interesting. Readings were sometimes necessary to skim but the TA usually goes over it all in sections. The exams were take home and the professor was very undrstanding.
Love the professor and the class! Makes me excited to keep pursuing political science!
It was ok but I didn't like how we needed to do an assignment in lecture instead of in discussion.
The lectures were very clear and straightforward and Professor Thompson did a great job at highlighting the actual important topics for this class. The weekly reading assignments are very important considering they will help with the weekly presentations and the exams were very reading based.
It's so good - take this
