He was great!
He never explains the concepts and only gives example so you need to study yourself from the book
This class was very fast paced but midterms were fair and the final (which was difficult) was curved generously. I struggled with Powell’s lecture style but all notes and lectures were posted which helped some.
Prof. Powell is great at teaching. His lectures are fast-paced, but all of the lectures were recorded. Discussions involved completing a worksheet. Discussion attendance was optional. The labs were fairly simple, if tedious, and generally, if you put in the work you would get a decent grade. This really depends on your TA. The exams were in-person and very fair. You are allowed a cheat sheet on every exam. Powell holds a review session before each exam and tells you the formulas you will need and shows some example problems. The class is graded on a straight scale, but the average grade is curved to a B-. The curve can only help. Extra credit is available through class evaluations at the end of the quarter and through Campuswire. It is also possible to drop one midterm grade and replace it with your final grade if you score higher on the final than one of the midterms. Overall, Powell is an awesome professor and I highly recommend you take Physics 5B with him.
Professor had clear explanations of course content and cared about his students. Lab part of this class is a little bit disorganized.
