Niemann cares deeply about his students and is a great lecturer. His lectures are heavily example-based. He also has a forgiving grading scheme, where each midterm is worth one unit and the final is worth two units -- your 3 best of these 4 units will contribute to 75% of your grade.
Lectures went off of slides and were Bruincasted. Tests were based off of practice midterms. Professor is clear during office hours.
really enjoyed prof niemanns teaching style where he went over the content and then went over example questions that are similar to the stuff we see on our homework and tests. the class lecture slides were very organized and easy to understand.
Niemann’s lectures were very clear, and he often did interesting demonstrations in class. He really cared about student learning and hosted special office hours before each exam!
Great class - felt the midterms were fair and based off lectures, and the professor drops your lowest score automatically. I struggled taking 5A with a different professor and worried about 5B, but Niemann taught the class well and I found it far easier to understand.
Niemann was a good lecturer and very helpful in office hours. The last long-answer question of both midterms was difficult, and because of this he graded the first midterm super generously but the second midterm he did not. Unfortunately, there’s not much built-in padding to this class (just homework and lab), so I studied for the final like a crazy person. The midterms/exams make up 75% of your grade, but he does a different grading system where each midterm is considered 1 unit, the final is considered 2 units, and he only takes your best 3/4 units (for example, if you bomb a midterm you can drop it completely, but if you bomb the final it doesn’t count for as much). I would definitely recommend taking Physics 5B with Niemann.
