This class was great, Samani was very helpful, and I would recommend anyone to take it with him!
Samani is a fantastic instructor who is very enthusiastic about what he does, however, his quizzes and finals were far more tough than what he taught. I was usually confident in what he lectured, but the exams did not represent what we had learned.
Class has in person participation needed, so go to class. Samani is a super good teacher and makes the material presented interesting, there are no midterms only weekly quizzes. No homework!. The quizzes are tough though, but just study for them and you'll be fine. Only downside is that it's kind of a flipped classroom if you're into that, most of the "gritty work" is done at home in terms of studying. In class, you only ever do one example max. However, it's theory heavy and really gets you to understand concepts vs. plugging and chugging. Another downside is no equations sheets are given, so you have to memorize them!
quizzes every week and they are very hard
Samani was a really good lecturer. There was only one midterm and he gave a lot of opportunities for EC.
This class was in quiz format when I took it, and I feel that helped a lot with my retention of the material compared to what I heard the midterm format was like in other quarters/classes
Samani is such a great professor. He truly cares about his student's learning and overall grades. He is very communicative through emails. He also uses the website Campuswire where students can ask and answer each others questions and gives extra credit. He writes all his lectures notes on the blackboard. His lectures are mandatory, considering he gives out response sheets to do during lecture and you submit those at the end of each class for points. His weekly homework is graded based on completion. There is no equation sheet or cheat sheet. He only gives out one midterm and it consists of an individual ad group portion. He assigns groups in the beginning of the quarter and you will work with that same group the entire quarter during discussion section. He is a really good professor.
Really passionate and clear professor. Really tried to make his class engaging. Does not record lectures or post slides so you really have to pay attention. Lenient grading too. Overall good experience taking 5B with him
josh was an amazing professor, he really made the class very interesting. tests and homework were definitely hard, but the work was rewarding
Mandatory attendance was annoying, but Samani was very understanding if you let him know. Had opportunity to work with the concepts during lectures through worksheets which is both a plus and still annoying. Final is cumulative.
