Math 32b is notoriously the hardest math lower division, and taking the class with Wern made that experience an utmost reality.
Wern is an extremely kind and gentle person. Yes, it's Wern's first year teaching here, but honestly, the entire scheme of the class was so absurd. Lectures were taught from the textbook, but the explanations seemed so unabsorbable! Reading the textbook helped me a lot with Midterm 2, but for me, Midterm 1 and FINAL were just NOT it.
I cannot forget to mention that there is basically zero partial credit for the exam questions; it is insane. I spent a good while chatting back and forth with a TA to justify some partial points, but still nothing. For those who are genuinely great at math, you'll do well in this class, but overall, it was not a pleasant experience for me. I am no genius, but I do put in effort to learn; this section didn't make it any easier.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
go to discussion sessions if you want to learn bc the lectures are poorly done
This was probably one of the hardest classes I have taken at this school simply due to the fact that the professor does not really teach. She reads straight off the textbook and often her lectures confused me more than it helped. Additionally, her midterms and finals were extremely difficult compared to the homework or practice midterm she gave out. I do not recommend taking this class.
