Loccioni mainly teaches upper-divs in the Linguistics Department so a lot of the material she provided in Ling 20 was just simplified content (slides, homework, etc.) from her previous upper-div courses. Also, the lectures were entirely based of the slides, so you could skip lecture and review the slides in your own time if you wanted to. Despite this, Loccioni always had such a bright smile on her face despite the fact that it was an 8AM, which always brightened up my mood! I do feel her teaching style is probably better suited for upper-div ling classes, but if you can’t go wrong with this professor.

    Quarter Taken: Winter 2023 In-Person
    Grade: B+

Ling 20 is a delightful introduction to linguistic analysis that almost certainly will make you more interested to learn more linguistics. I do have to credit Professor Loccioni for making the material so rewarding to learn, but also for saving my grade and GPA. To be fully transparent, I actually missed the midterm for this class by accident, but since I did really well on the final, she generously raised my grade from a lower grade to a B+. So from my perspective, Loccioni is one of the most caring and understanding professors I'll probably ever have. Take it with her for sure, because she's actually concerned with your learning.
