do not take with pires if you want to learn
dont have to kmnow everything in the book just review midterms and slides
Dr. Pires is a nice person but she kind of breezes through class material and you don't really learn much. It all seems very surface leveled. Lectures are not very helpful. Also, for the final AoL, they made the test incredibly harder than AoL 1 and 2 for whatever reason. Make sure you practice a lot before AoL's (go to CLC sessions).
Lectures didn't explore concepts too deeply which requires more self-studying and completing the pre-class assignments. Midterms and final are structured as AOL's that had questions that were often tricky.
It was a flipped class i.e. you do readings before class and then lectures are mostly review
I feel like the CLC/problem solving sessions weren't very helpful, but the class was fine, kind of hard material.
I do not agree with the way that Pires presents the material. Even though the material may be on the "easier" side, the way she explains concepts is just very confusing. The course itself was great, really enjoyable content, but Pires may not be the best instructor for it.
The way the class is structured is very unique and helpful. The clicker participation is great during the lectures to prepare for midterms, and pod groups in discussion sections is a great resource for reaching out for help.
Professor Pires did not adequately prepare her students for the multiple tests given throughout the quarter. I found it more helpful to attend other professors' office hours and watch their BruinCast videos.
